REVIEW: Tascam TH-02 Studio Headphones

Tascam’s TH-02 Studio Headphones claims a sound that can contend with headphones that are $100+ dollars but for a fraction of the price. With a promise like that we had to check it out for ourselves. So, we’ve tested these headphones in various applications to see how well they stand up to the hype. For one of the most affordable pair of cans on the market, we found Tascams TH-02 Studio Headphones deliver a tremendous value for the price.

Design

At first glance, the TH-02’s look very stylish and professional. The cable is a decent size and feels sturdy. The cushioned ear cuffs allow for 90-degree rotation making them convenient to rest around the neck. The padding around the ear cuffs keeps a fair amount of outside noise out so one can really feel like they are inside the mix. A downside is that the padding isn’t the coziest so it may become uncomfortable to wear over long periods of time. Overall, the build is fairly rugged in comparison to headphones in a similar price range and is sturdy enough to wisthstand common studio wear.

Sound Quality

The sound is quite a surprise—it’s very clean and high-quality sounding. It has a very rich midsection and a solid bass. They are not the most accurate pair of headphones money can buy, but they are solid enough to use as a pair of on-the-road production headphones or for in-studio recording.

Is It Worth It?

The TH-02 is arguably one of the best items you can spend 50 bucks on. They are an excellent choice for those on a budget who are looking for something that will sound decent and last long. At its price point, it’s certainly a great option for the DIY musician.
